What to expect in use

Fill to the marked line, sit the tools in and close the lid. The lock clicks, the cycle begins and the LED glows through the liquid; about ten minutes later you lift out visibly cleaner parts to rinse and dry per your solution.

Does the box clean my tools on its own, or do I add something?

You add the solution. The BarberSonic is a sonic cleaning station: it holds your tools in a soaking compartment and uses sonic vibrations to lift hair, oil and grime while they sit in the solution you choose. The disinfectant solution itself is not included -- pick one suited to your tools, fill to the marked line and follow its instructions.

What can I put inside it?

Detachable metal and plastic parts -- shears, blades, guards and combs. The removable tray is made for up to eight guards, and the two compartments let you run a batch at once. Do not immerse a whole powered clipper or trimmer; clean the detachable parts instead.

Is the LED a UV light that cleans on its own?

No. The LED lights simply illuminate the solution so you can see the cycle running; they are a light, not a germicidal lamp. The cleaning comes from the sonic vibrations working with the solution you have added.

Does it need to be plugged in?

Not necessarily. It runs corded or on three C batteries, so you can place it wherever suits your station. The smart cycle starts on its own once you close the lid and the spring lock engages.

How long is a cycle?
