The BaBylissPRO FALCO Digital Hair Dryer 2000W (BAB8550BE) is an advanced professional dryer engineered to be powerful and remarkably quiet. Made in Italy, its high-performance, long-life high-speed digital motor -- up to 100,000 RPM -- drives 244 km/h air speed, 55 m3/h air flow and 2976 Pa air pressure, so hair dries fast and styling lasts. At only 388 g in a stay-cool, T-shape body it stays comfortable all day, while low vibration keeps it up to 2x quieter than other BaBylissPRO digital-motor dryers. Ionic technology, 3 speeds and 4 temperatures, a cold shot and a last-setting memory give precise control on any hair type.

Why the FALCO works in the salon

Behind the chair you need power that does not tire you out or drown out the room, and Falco is built for exactly that. The high-speed digital motor pushes a fast, high-pressure airstream -- 244 km/h at 2976 Pa -- so blow-dries are quick and hold well, while the ultra-light 388 g T-shape body stays balanced through back-to-back clients. Low-vibration engineering makes it up to 2x quieter than other BaBylissPRO digital-motor dryers, a real difference in a busy salon. The stay-cool housing lets you hold it however you like, while ionic technology smooths frizz and lifts shine as you dry.

What to expect in the hand

Pick it up and the T-shape balance is the first thing you feel -- the weight sits over your hand, not out at the nozzle. Switch it on and the next thing is the sound, or the lack of it: it moves a lot of air without the high-pitched whine of a standard dryer. The airflow is strong but streamlined, so it goes where you aim it, and two electronic switches change speed and heat under your fingertips. The magnetic filter clicks off for a quick clean and the dryer will not run without it -- a powerful dryer that happens to be easy to hold and easy on the ears.

Who it is for

  • Stylists who want salon power without the noise or the arm fatigue
  • Barbers and colourists working back-to-back who need all-day comfort
  • On-set and studio pros who need a quieter dryer
  • Advanced home users who want a Made-in-Italy professional dryer

Who it is not for

  • Anyone who only wants the lightest possible wand -- the featherlight Drying Wand is slimmer for pure manoeuvrability
  • Running the diffuser on high heat -- fit the diffuser only on the lowest heat and speed setting
  • Travellers who need a dual-voltage tool -- this model runs on 230-240 V mains

Professional tip

Work with the airflow, not against it: keep the nozzle a few fingers off the brush and follow the hair down from root to tip so the cuticle lies flat and shines. Use the 70 x 4 mm nozzle to smooth long, dense hair and the shorter 60 x 6 mm nozzle for control near the neckline, and finish each section on the cold shot to set the style. Keep the dryer moving and never hold it on one spot.

How to use it

  1. Start on towel-dried hair and clip on the nozzle or diffuser you need
  2. Choose a speed and temperature -- lower heat for fine or fragile hair, higher for thick hair
  3. Rough-dry first, then section and smooth with a concentrator nozzle down the hair
  4. For curls and waves, fit the diffuser and use it only on the lowest heat and speed setting
  5. Set each section with the cold shot for shine and lasting hold
  6. Switch off; the magnetic filter lifts off for cleaning and the power cuts out when it is removed
Safety: This dryer produces high-temperature airflow and can cause burns. Keep the airflow and the hot nozzles away from the skin, scalp and eyes, and do not block the air inlet while it runs. For safety the power shuts off automatically when the magnetic rear filter is removed -- always refit the filter before use. Keep the dryer and its cord away from water, never leave it switched on and unattended, let it cool before storing, and keep it out of the reach of children.

Care and maintenance

Switch the dryer off, unplug it and let it cool, then hold the handle, pull off the magnetic rear filter and brush the mesh clean -- a clear filter keeps the airflow strong. Wipe the housing with a soft cloth and coil the cord loosely rather than wrapping it tight. A spare filter is in the box; for more BaBylissPRO tools and spares see the BaBylissPRO accessories and spares page. To section the hair cleanly while you work, add the BaBylissPRO Croco Clips X6.

Frequently asked questions

What makes the FALCO so quiet?

A low-vibration high-speed digital motor and noise engineering that removes the high-pitched sounds that carry in a room. The result is 70 dB and up to 2x quieter than other BaBylissPRO digital-motor dryers -- a real benefit in a busy salon or on set, without giving up airflow.

Is 2000 W powerful enough for thick hair?

Yes. Drying power comes from airflow and pressure as much as wattage: the high-speed digital motor delivers a 244 km/h stream at 2976 Pa, which dries thick hair quickly. The 2000 W heating pairs with that airflow rather than relying on heat alone.

What comes with it, and is the straightening pik included?

It comes with two ultra-thin concentrator nozzles (70 x 4 mm & 60 x 6 mm), a large 18-finger diffuser and a spare magnetic rear filter. The straightening pik is a separate accessory and is sold separately, not included in the box.

How do I clean the filter, and why does it stop when I remove it?

Hold the handle and pull off the magnetic rear filter, then brush the mesh clean and refit it. The filter has electronic detection: for safety the dryer cuts power the moment the filter is removed, so it only runs with the filter in place. A spare filter is included.

Which temperature and attachment should I use?

Start low and work up -- lower heat for fine, fragile or coloured hair, higher for thick hair. Use the 70 x 4 mm nozzle to smooth long, dense hair, the 60 x 6 mm nozzle for shorter hair and the neckline, and the diffuser for curls and waves.

Can I use the diffuser on a high setting?

No. Fit the diffuser and use it only on the lowest heat and speed setting -- that protects the curl pattern and dries waves and coils gently. Turning the heat and speed up with the diffuser on can disturb the curl and is not how it is designed to be used.

Can I use it abroad on holiday?

This model is built for 230-240 V mains, so it is not a dual-voltage travel dryer. In regions on a different mains voltage a simple plug adapter is not enough, and using it on the wrong voltage can damage it. If you travel often, choose a dryer rated for worldwide voltage.
