BaBylissPRO Evoluto Hair Dryer 2400W (BAB6985E) is a Made-in-Italy ionic dryer for salon stylists and barbers. It ships with a 150 mm diffuser with lock-in system and two slim concentrator nozzles in the box. Behind those attachments sits a long-life digital motor rated at 2400W, in a dryer that weighs 365 g. BaBylissPRO describes it as a powerful, ultra-light, modern dryer for all hair types. It runs on 230-240V mains only and is set with two rocker switches and a separate cold-air button, with no digital display.

Why stylists reach for the Evoluto

Most blow-dry services need more than one attachment, and the Evoluto carries all three in the box. The diffuser spreads the airflow over a wider area, which is why it belongs on curls and waves; the two slim nozzles narrow the air for directed drying and smoothing. BaBylissPRO also tests the Evoluto for professional use in five areas: drop resilience, motor lifespan, cord endurance, switch durability and electronics reliability. Our view: if you smooth and diffuse on the same day, this dryer saves you buying a separate diffuser.

Key features

  • Long-life digital motor, 2400W: 'digital' is the trade term for an electronically controlled motor.
  • Air output in figures: 153 km/h air speed, 82.8 m³/h airflow and 1251 Pa air pressure.
  • Two speeds, three heat positions: 14,200 and 18,500 RPM on the speed switch; no heat, 78°C and 127°C on the heat switch.
  • Separate lockable cold-air button: cold air on demand, or locked on so you do not have to hold it down.
  • Ionic technology: BaBylissPRO fits it to help control frizz for a smoother, shinier finish.
  • 150 mm lock-in diffuser: a wide bowl that locks onto the dryer.
  • Two slim concentrator nozzles: 6 x 60 mm (narrow) and 6 x 75 mm (wide).
  • Detachable rear filter: comes off for cleaning, so you can clear lint from the air intake.

What to expect in the hand

Two rocker switches sit on the handle. One sets the heat, with the blue dot marking the no-heat position; the other moves between off and the two speeds. The cold-air button sits on the front of the handle. Lock it and the air stays cold until you release it, which leaves your hand free for the brush. The narrow nozzle gives a tighter band of air than the wide one, while the diffuser spreads the flow across its bowl.

Who it is for

  • Salon stylists who blow-dry, smooth and diffuse on the same day and want every attachment in one box.
  • Barbers who dry and set longer tops and want a directed nozzle for shape.
  • Anyone who stands at the chair for hours and wants a light dryer body.
  • Stylists who would rather lock the cold air on than hold a button down.

Who it is not for

  • Anyone travelling to countries with lower mains voltage, such as the US: the Evoluto runs on 230-240V only. For travel, look at the dual-voltage BaBylissPRO Bambino.
  • Stylists who want a digital display or preset temperature readouts.
  • Anyone looking for a cordless, battery-powered dryer.

Professional tip

Working on curly hair, cup the curls into the diffuser and hold still for a few seconds before you lift away. Then move to the next section instead of circling the bowl through the hair. Start low and step up only when a section is drying too slowly. Our rule at the chair: lock the cold air on for the last pass over each diffused section, then keep your hands off it until it feels dry to the touch.

How to use

  1. Towel-dry the hair and divide it into sections with clips.
  2. Fit the attachment you need: a nozzle for directed drying, or the diffuser, locked onto the dryer.
  3. Plug in, then choose a heat position and a speed on the two handle switches.
  4. Keep the dryer moving and point the airflow along the hair shaft, from roots to ends.
  5. For a cool finish, press the cold-air button, or lock it to keep the cold air running.
  6. Switch off, unplug and let the attachments cool before you take them off.
Safety: The airflow, the nozzles and the diffuser get hot during use; let them cool before handling. Never use the dryer near a bath, shower, basin or other water, and never with wet hands. Unplug it after use and before cleaning or removing the rear filter, and never run it without the filter in place. Do not cover the air intake or outlet. Keep the cord away from hot surfaces and out of reach of children. This is a Class II appliance for 230-240V mains only.

Care and maintenance

The detachable rear filter is the part that needs regular attention. Unplug the dryer, let it cool, take the filter off as shown in the leaflet, brush or tap out the lint and refit it before the next use. Wipe the nozzles and the diffuser with a dry cloth once they are cool. Spare attachments and other parts are on our BaBylissPRO accessories page. And for sectioning while you blow-dry, the BaBylissPRO Croco Clips X6 keep each section out of the way.

Frequently asked questions

Is 127°C too hot for fine, bleached or colour-treated hair?

Not if you use the positions the Evoluto gives you. Next to 127°C, the heat switch has a 78°C position and a no-heat position, and a separate button switches to cold air. We start fine, bleached or colour-treated hair on a lower position, keep the dryer moving and finish with cold air. The 2400W rating describes the power the dryer draws, not a temperature you have to use.

Can I use the Evoluto abroad with a plug adapter?

Only where the mains supply is 230-240V. A plug adapter changes the shape of the plug, not the voltage, so the Evoluto is not suitable for lower-voltage mains, even with an adapter. For travel to those countries, a dual-voltage dryer such as the BaBylissPRO Bambino is the better fit.

What is the difference between the cold-air button and the no-heat setting?

The no-heat setting is a position on the heat switch: the dryer blows unheated air for as long as it stays there. The cold-air button is separate and sits on the front of the handle. You can switch to cold for a moment without touching the heat switch, or lock it on to keep the cold air running. We use the button to set a section at the end of a pass.

How often should I clean the rear filter?

In a busy salon we check it every week and clean it as soon as lint shows on the mesh. A clogged filter restricts the air coming in, and that is also a common cause of a hot or burnt smell. Always unplug the dryer and let it cool first, and refit the filter before you switch it on again.

Does the diffuser lock on, and how do I use it?

Yes. The 150 mm diffuser has a lock-in system, so it locks onto the dryer instead of simply pushing on. BaBylissPRO does not assign a speed or heat position to it; we start curly hair on a lower setting, rest each section in the bowl for a moment and finish with cold air.

Will the ionic function flatten fine hair?

Not on its own. BaBylissPRO fits ionic technology to help control frizz for a smoother, shinier finish. On fine hair, flatness usually comes from drying too long on high heat or brushing the roots flat. Lift the roots with your brush and choose a lower heat position if you want to keep volume.

Does 2400W mean it dries faster?

Not by itself. Wattage tells you how much power the dryer draws; how the air leaves it is described by airflow and pressure. For the Evoluto, BaBylissPRO specifies 153 km/h air speed, 82.8 m³/h airflow and 1251 Pa air pressure. Drying time also depends on the hair, the attachment and your technique, so we do not promise a time.
