The JRL 3000C x Onyx White Barber Kit (2-piece) pairs the 3000C compact cordless clipper with the Onyx cordless trimmer. It is built for the barber who cuts and lines up from the same chair. The 3000C runs a brushless motor at 7800 RPM. Its blade lever locks at five set positions, so the guard height is repeatable between clients. The Onyx carries JRL's patented EZ-GAP cutting head and charges on a charging stand. Both run on 100-240V, 50/60Hz.

Motors: brushless 7800 RPM in the clipper, rotary 8200 RPM in the trimmer

Runtime: 2 hours on the clipper, 3,5 hours on the trimmer

Charging: 2 hours for the clipper; 1,5 hours for the trimmer

Cutting range: 0,25-3 mm on the clipper, 0-0,5 mm on the trimmer

Guards: six with the clipper (1,5 / 3 / 4,5 / 6 / 10 / 13 mm), five with the trimmer (1,5 / 3 / 6 / 8 / 10 mm)

Power: 100-240V, 50/60Hz on both machines

In the kit: two machines, two charging stands, eleven guards, oil, brushes and adjustment tools

Why barbers buy the pair together

A fade and a line-up are two jobs, and they want two blade geometries. The 3000C carries the JRL Taper blade and opens from 0,25 to 3 mm on the lever. The Onyx carries a 360 degree exposed T-blade that closes to zero and is built for edges. We would rather sell two machines that each do one job well than one that half-does both.

Key features

  • Five-position lock lever on the clipper - the taper setting holds where you put it, so the guard height is repeatable across a full column of clients.
  • Zero-gap capable - both are designed to be set to zero gap, and both ship with the tool for it.
  • LED runtime and charge indicator on the clipper, so a flat battery is something you see coming.
  • Smart-Clip constant speed on the trimmer, JRL's patented system for holding motor speed under load.
  • Cold Blade Technology on the Onyx, with a stainless fixed blade against a titanium moving blade.

What to expect on the chair

The 3000C is compact by design rather than by compromise. It sits shorter in the hand than a full-size clipper, which helps close to the ear and around the crown. The Onyx is the finishing half of the pair, with a motor rated up to 1000 hours and built to run quietly. We rate that last point higher than most spec sheets do.

Who it is for

  • Barbers who cut and line up in the same service and want a matched cordless pair
  • Anyone building a second station, or a travel and home-visit set that still cuts properly
  • Barbers who prefer a smaller clipper body for detail work near the ear and neckline

Who it is not for

  • Barbers who spend the day removing bulk from very dense hair - a full-size JRL clipper is the better main machine, and this pair is the better second one
  • Anyone who wants one machine to do everything; this is deliberately two tools
  • Buyers who want a shaver or a dryer in the box - those sit in the 3-piece and 4-piece kits

Professional tip

Set your gap dry, before the first client, and set it on the clipper first. Our rule is to run the lever through all five lock positions with the machine on, listening for a clean note at each stop. Only then take the trimmer to zero. That order gives you a confirmed baseline before you touch the finishing tool. When a line comes out soft, you are then diagnosing one variable instead of two.

How to use

  1. Charge both machines fully before the first service, because the clipper takes 2 hours to fill.
  2. Set the clipper lever to the lock position you want, so the guard sits at a height you can return to.
  3. Work the bulk and the taper with the 3000C and its guards, moving up through the six sizes as the cut climbs.
  4. Switch to the Onyx for the outline, the temples and the neckline, because its T-blade closes where the clipper stops.
  5. Brush both blades clear between clients so hair does not pack behind the teeth.
  6. Oil the blades at the end of the day and stand both machines back on their docks.

Safety. Both blades can be set to zero gap, and a blade set that close sits very near the skin - adjust it carefully and check the exposure before you take it to a client. Keep both machines and their lithium-ion batteries away from water and from heat, charge them only with the adapter supplied, and keep them out of reach of children. Stop using a machine whose blade is chipped or whose cable or adapter is damaged.

Care and maintenance

Brush both blades clear after every client and oil them at the end of the day. A few drops along the blade with the machine running is enough. Blades are wear parts and will dull with use, which is why clipper blades and shaving heads sit outside warranty cover. Noise or pulling after a blade swap is usually an adjustment matter rather than a fault, so re-seat and re-align first. Our Service and Repairs page sets out what the motor and battery guarantee covers.

In short

  • Two cordless machines - 7800 RPM in the clipper, 8200 RPM in the trimmer.
  • Cut and finish - 0,25-3 mm on the clipper lever, 0-0,5 mm on the trimmer T-blade.
  • Eleven guards across the pair, plus oil, brushes and both adjustment tools.
  • Both on 100-240V, each with its own charging stand.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose the Taper blade or the other blade version of the 3000C?

This kit carries the Taper blade, which JRL builds for clean, precise cutting through the bulk. The Fade blade version is the one to pick if most of your work is fading rather than general taper cutting. Both open from 0,25 to 3 mm on the lever, so the difference is the blade geometry and the job it is cut for, not the range.

Can I put a Fade blade on a Taper 3000C, or the other way round?

Do not assume it fits. JRL's magnetic guards are shared across much of the range, and barbers often read that as meaning the blades are interchangeable too, but blade fitment is model-specific and JRL asks you to confirm the correct blade for your machine before swapping. Check the fitment for your exact model first, or buy the blade version you actually want.

Do I still need to oil the blades?

Yes, every day you use them. There is a widespread belief that modern coated blades are self-lubricating and can be left alone, and it is wrong - skipped oiling is one of the most common reasons a clipper starts running hot, pulling hair or losing its edge. Both machines ship with oil for exactly this reason.

Can the blades be zero-gapped, and does that affect the guarantee?

Both machines are designed to be set to zero gap and both ship with the tool for it, so adjusting them is routine maintenance rather than a modification. Worth knowing separately: cutting blades and shaving heads are wear parts and are not covered by warranty in any case, and noise after you have re-gapped or replaced a blade is treated as an adjustment matter, not a manufacturing defect.

Is the 3000C powerful enough to be my main clipper?

It depends on your day rather than on the machine. The 3000C is a compact clipper with a brushless motor running at 7800 RPM and a 2 hour runtime, which suits fading, detail work and a full column of normal services. If you spend most of the day taking bulk out of very dense hair, a full-size JRL clipper is the better main machine and this pair is the better second set.

What is the difference between the 3000C and the Onyx in this kit?

The 3000C is a clipper and the Onyx is a trimmer, and they are not interchangeable. The clipper takes hair down with guards across a 0,25 to 3 mm range and does the taper; the trimmer runs a T-blade that closes to 0 mm and does outlines, edges and the neckline. A compact clipper can look like a trimmer in photographs, which is where the confusion usually starts.

Does each machine come with its own charger?

Yes. Each machine has its own charging stand and its own mains adapter, so you can leave both standing on the station. They do not share a single charger, which means two sockets rather than one.
