The Sarah K So Liss Expert Tech Progressive System - Step 2 - Brazilian Keratin Smoothing - 1000ml is the smoothing step at the heart of the So Liss professional service. Applied after the Step 1 deep-cleansing prep, it uses a Whey Protein and Keratin technology, carried by acid peptides that pass through the cuticle to build a structural protein seal around the cortex. The result is progressive alignment: frizz is calmed, volume is reduced and the hair is left smoother, softer and shinier with each service. This is Step 2 of a professional salon system, for professional use only.

How it works

So Liss Step 2 is a progressive smoothing system built on Whey Protein and Keratin, rich in amino acids that reinforce the fibre. Highly cationized acid peptides pass through the cuticle and form a structural protein seal around the cortex; worked with the flat-iron, that seal aligns the hair for a progressive, build-with-each-service result: less frizz, reduced volume and more shine. Hydrolyzed keratin and collagen, shea butter, macadamia and coconut oils and panthenol condition the fibre throughout.

Key ingredients

  • Whey Protein and Keratin: the protein hero, rich in amino acids that reinforce the fibre and carry the smoothing action.
  • Glyoxyloyl carbocysteine and glyoxyloyl keratin amino acids: the acid-peptide actives that seal and align the hair around the cortex.
  • Hydrolyzed keratin and hydrolyzed collagen: replenish protein along the strand for strength and smoothness.
  • Shea butter, macadamia and coconut oils, panthenol: condition and add shine as the hair is smoothed.

What to expect

After a full service the hair is visibly smoother, with frizz calmed, volume reduced and a glossy finish. Because it is progressive, the effect builds and can be dialled from a soft, natural reduction in volume to a sleeker result. The proteins and oils leave the hair conditioned and shiny rather than stripped, but the outcome depends on correct sectioning, pause time, neutralizing and ironing by a trained stylist.

How to use

For professional use, on clean hair after So Liss Step 1. Dry the hair fully, divide into four sections and, starting at the nape about half a centimetre from the scalp, brush Step 2 on strand by strand from root to tip. Comb through to distribute evenly, then leave for 40 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm or cool water for about 5 minutes until the product is fully removed, then apply the neutralizing mask (the dark-hair neutralizer, or the blonde neutralizer for light hair) for 5 to 15 minutes and rinse well. Blow-dry, then flat-iron in thin sections at 190 to 230 degrees Celsius, 7 to 10 slow passes, more at the roots and less at the ends. Keep to a maximum of 190 degrees on blonde, red or light hair, and wait 24 to 48 hours before the first wash. Always do a strand test first.

Safety: For professional use only. Wear protective gloves and work in a ventilated space. Avoid contact with the scalp, eyes, skin and mucous membranes; if contact occurs, rinse immediately with running water for 5 minutes and seek medical advice if needed. Do not use on an irritated or broken scalp, or on children or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do a strand test and a patch test before the service, and stop if hypersensitivity occurs. Shake before use. Keep from children; store away from direct light in a cool place.

Who it is for

  • Stylists and salons offering a progressive smoothing and volume-reduction service.
  • Frizzy, voluminous or wavy hair that a professional wants to smooth and align gradually.
  • Clients who want a progressive, buildable result rather than a single dramatic change.
  • Coloured, blonde or lightened hair, when a strand test is done and the lower iron temperature is respected.

Who it is not for

  • Home users without professional training (this is a salon system requiring correct application, neutralizing and ironing).
  • Anyone with an irritated or broken scalp, and use during pregnancy or breastfeeding or on children.
  • Hair that fails the strand test with breakage, where the service should not proceed.

Compatibility

Step 2 is the smoothing core of the So Liss system. It is used after the Sarah K So Liss Deep Clean Shampoo (Step 1), which preps the hair, and is followed by a neutralizing mask and the flat-iron finish within the professional protocol. It is also sold as part of the So Liss kits: the Progressive Keratin Kit pairs it with the Step 1 shampoo, and the Complete Salon Kit adds the BTX Volume Reduction Mask so a salon can offer both the progressive and the BTX volume-reduction routes from one purchase.

In short

Frequently asked questions

What is the So Liss Expert Tech Progressive System, and how does it work?

It is the Step 2 smoothing system of So Liss, built on Whey Protein and Keratin. Cationized acid peptides pass through the cuticle and form a structural protein seal around the cortex, which, worked with the flat-iron, aligns the hair progressively. The result is less frizz, reduced volume and more shine, with keratin, collagen and plant oils conditioning the fibre through the service.

Is it a formaldehyde treatment?

No. It is a progressive system based on glyoxylic acid derivatives (glyoxyloyl carbocysteine and keratin amino acids) and proteins, and the ingredient list does not include formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. As with any professional smoothing service, it must be used by a trained stylist with gloves and good ventilation, following the stated flat-iron temperatures.

How is it applied, and at what flat-iron temperature?

On clean, fully dried hair after Step 1, brush it on in four sections from root to tip, comb through, and leave for 40 minutes. Rinse for about 5 minutes, apply the neutralizing mask for 5 to 15 minutes, and rinse. Blow-dry, then flat-iron at 190 to 230 degrees Celsius, 7 to 10 slow passes. Keep to a maximum of 190 degrees on blonde, red or light hair.

Can it be used on coloured, blonde or bleached hair?

Yes, with care. Always do a strand test first to check the hair can take the service without breakage, and keep the flat-iron to a maximum of 190 degrees on blonde, red or lightened hair. A neutralizing step suited to the hair shade is part of the protocol. If the strand test shows breakage, do not proceed.

Who should not use it, and what precautions apply?

It is for professional use only, with protective gloves and ventilation. Do not use it on an irritated or broken scalp, on children, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avoid contact with the scalp, eyes and skin, and do a strand test and a patch test beforehand, stopping if hypersensitivity appears. It is a hair-smoothing product and is intended only for that use.

How long do results last, and how do I maintain them?

Because it is progressive, the smoothing builds across services and gradually relaxes over time, depending on the hair and how often it is repeated. Wait 24 to 48 hours before the first wash, which helps the result settle, then maintain it with gentle washing and regular conditioning. A dedicated maintenance routine between salon visits keeps the smooth, aligned finish looking its best for longer.
