What to expect in use

Switch it on and the LEDs flash while the plates heat; once they stay lit, the styler is ready, which BaBylissPRO puts at 25 seconds. For the first 5 seconds you can change the setting freely; after that the buttons lock, so a thumb resting on the plus key mid-section does not move the heat. To change it later, hold + or - for 2 seconds. At 305 g, with a 2.7 m swivel cord, the iron turns easily around the head. The rounded housing gives a soft edge to guide hair over for curls.

Professional tip

Our rule with any new client is to start at the lowest setting that does the job, test one section, then step up one LED at a time. Take a section no wider than the plates, comb it through and lay the section flat across the full plate before you close the iron. Glide in one steady pass from about 1 cm off the scalp to the ends, and keep the iron moving. Rest it on the heat mat between sections. We find the finish stays even from crown to nape.

How to use

Plug the styler into a suitable mains socket and place it on the heat mat on a firm, stable surface.
Press the power button, then choose your setting with + or - within the first 5 seconds; after that, hold + or - for 2 seconds to unlock.
Wait until the LEDs stop flashing: the selected temperature is then reached.
Make sure the hair is dry and combed through, then divide it into sections.
Work section by section, keep the plates about 1 cm from the scalp and rest the styler on the mat in between.
When you finish, hold the power button for 1 to 2 seconds to switch off, then unplug.
Let the styler cool fully in the heat mat before you store it.

Safety: the plates get very hot. Hold the styler by the handle only and keep the hot surfaces away from skin, especially the eyes, ears, face and neck. Keep it out of reach of young children while it is in use and while it cools. Never use it near a bath, shower or basin filled with water, and never put it in water or any other liquid. If you use it in a bathroom, unplug it after use. Do not leave it unattended while it is switched on or plugged in, and do not set it on a heat-sensitive surface, even with the mat. Do not use it if the styler or its cord is damaged; a damaged cord must be replaced by the manufacturer.

Care and maintenance

Clean the plates when the styler is completely cool and unplugged: wipe them with a damp cloth to lift styling-product build-up, so the non-stick EP Technology surface stays clean. Keep the cord away from the hot plates at all times, and store it beside the styler rather than wrapped around it, which can damage the cord. Frequently asked questions

Which temperature should I use for fine, bleached or coloured hair?

Start low. Fine or fragile hair begins at 150 °C (1 LED) and coloured or highlighted hair at 170 °C (2 LEDs). Bleached hair also belongs on the lower settings, and the maximum setting is not meant for every client. Medium-textured hair sits at 190 °C, naturally curly or wavy hair at 210 °C and thick, coarse hair at 230 °C. Test a section on first use and step up only if the result needs it.

Can I use the Styler Wide on wet or damp hair?

No. The hair should be dry and combed through before you start, then divided into sections. Dry it first with a hair dryer and a brush, and only then reach for the styler.

Why can't I change the temperature after switching on?

The buttons lock automatically 5 seconds after you switch on, so the setting cannot shift by accident while you work. To change it, hold the + or - button for 2 seconds to release the lock, then select the new setting. To switch off while the lock is active, hold the power button until the styler turns off.

Can I curl hair with a 38 mm wide straightener?

Yes. The Styler Wide has a curved profile designed for curls and waves, and BaBylissPRO positions it for straightening and curling long, thick hair, including volume and big curls. For tighter curls on shorter hair, a slimmer styler such as the ELIPSIS3100 with 24 x 110 mm plates may suit you better.

Can I use it on hair extensions?

Yes, on real hair extensions. BaBylissPRO mentions them alongside the extended range from 150 °C, so start at the lowest setting and test a section first. Synthetic extensions are not covered, so we do not recommend using the styler on them.

Can I take it abroad, or do I need a voltage converter?

You can take it with you: the styler adjusts itself to 100-240 V, so no voltage converter is needed. You may need a plug adapter for the local socket, which is not included. With an adapter, heat-up can take a little longer, but the styling performance stays the same.

How do I clean the plates?

Let the styler cool completely and unplug it, then wipe the plates with a damp cloth to remove styling-product residue. Keep the cord away from the plates and never wrap it around the styler when you put it away.
