Which Salvatore home care after which salon treatment? The chooser, set by set

Salvatore Home Care is Salvatore's everyday line alongside the Tanino Therapy and Blue Gold salon treatments. We recommend one set per salon treatment: after a smoothing the Chemical Repair duo, after bleaching the Blond Hair duo, after a curl treatment the Curl Hair trio. After salon steps F, G or J the Restructuring duo, after Step D the Hydrating duo and for mixed and oily hair the Scalp duo. Each set is a shampoo and a mask; Curl Hair adds a leave-in. Which set after which treatment?

SMOOTHING
After Tanino Therapy A+B or Blue Gold Step 1+2 we recommend the Chemical Repair duo, with Tanino Touch added if wanted.
BLONDE
After bleaching and for blonde hair we recommend the Blond Hair duo. Freshly coloured? We start with Chemical Repair (pH Control on the bottle), then move to Blond Hair.
CURLS
After the curl steps M and N or the Curl Transition Kit we recommend the Curl Hair trio with shampoo, mask and leave-in.
STEPS F, G, J
After steps F, G or J, or the AGJ kit, we recommend the Restructuring duo.
STEP D
After Step D we recommend the Hydrating duo.
SCALP
For mixed and oily hair, as the Scalp Treatment shampoo bottle puts it, we recommend the Scalp duo.

Our rule for the retail shelf: every salon that smooths puts out the Chemical Repair duo, plus the one set that fits its own clientele. Blondes in the chair? Blond Hair. Curls? Curl Hair. More than three sets on the shelf rarely sell better than two you use yourself.

Chemical Repair · shampoo 300 ml + mask 250 ml
WHAT FOR
pH Control, per the bottle, for hair damaged by chemicals or external factors. We use the set as maintenance after the smoothing.
USE
Shampoo on wet hair, rinse, repeat if needed. Mask on lengths and ends, 3 to 5 minutes, rinse. Singles: shampoo and mask.
Blond Hair · shampoo + mask
WHAT FOR
Our pick after bleaching and for blonde hair.
USE
Follow the bottle. Singles: shampoo and mask.
Curl Hair · shampoo + mask 250 ml + leave-in
WHAT FOR
Curly, wavy and afro hair; the shampoo is made, per the bottle, to avoid drying the ends.
USE
Shampoo on wet hair, rinse with cold or lukewarm water. Mask: leave on for 3 to 5 minutes. Leave-in: follow the bottle.
Restructuring · shampoo 300 ml + mask
WHAT FOR
Daily use for damaged hair, with gentle cleansing, per the shampoo bottle.
USE
Shampoo: a small amount on wet hair, massage gently; then the mask (Step 2). Mask: follow the bottle.
Hydrating · shampoo + mask

Scalp · shampoo 300 ml + mask
WHAT FOR
Mixed and oily hair, per the bottle; the shampoo contains, among others, rosemary, ginkgo and arnica extracts.
USE
Shampoo: a small amount on the scalp of wet hair, massage gently with the fingertips; then the mask (Step 2). Mask: follow the bottle.

Does it have to be sulphate-free?

In our view, no. The Chemical Repair, Curl Hair, Restructuring and Scalp Treatment shampoos all four list Sodium Laureth Sulfate among their ingredients. What Salvatore recommends is on Blue Gold Premium Step 2: 'For the treatment maintenance, recommended an Everyday Use on Salvatore Line.' So we do not put a sulphate-free label on a bottle that does not carry one.

How long does the result last with the right set?

That depends mostly on what the hair goes through after the treatment: the flat-iron work, the regrowth, the first wash and the care at home. For that care we recommend the Chemical Repair duo after a smoothing. More in our taninoplastia explained guide and in the aftercare guide.

What do you watch for?

The home line is for daily use and not a salon treatment; the allergy test Salvatore prescribes for Blue Gold applies to the salon steps. For each product, follow the warnings on the pack and keep it out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

Which shampoo do you use after a Salvatore taninoplastia?
We recommend the Chemical Repair shampoo (Step 1) with the Chemical Repair mask (Step 2), together the Chemical Repair duo. The Blue Gold Premium Step 2 bottle says 'For the treatment maintenance, recommended an Everyday Use on Salvatore Line.' The mask stays on for 3 to 5 minutes.
Does the shampoo after a tannin treatment have to be sulphate-free?
In our view, no. The Chemical Repair shampoo itself lists Sodium Laureth Sulfate, and on Blue Gold Premium Step 2 Salvatore recommends 'an Everyday Use on Salvatore Line' for maintenance. We would rather say that than sell a sulphate-free label the bottle does not carry.
Which home care after bleaching?
We recommend the Blond Hair duo, a shampoo and a mask. On freshly coloured hair we start with the Chemical Repair duo, then move to the Blond Hair duo. For the leave-on time, follow the bottle.
Which home care after a curl treatment?
We recommend the Curl Hair trio: shampoo (Step 1), mask (Step 2) and leave-in (Step 3). Per the bottle, the shampoo is for curly, wavy and afro hair and is rinsed with cold or lukewarm water; the mask stays on for 3 to 5 minutes. We use the trio after the salon steps M and N.
