The Reactive Pro protocol kit puts two Piur London salon products together for one professional smoothing service on blonde, highlighted or sensitised hair. The two are Reactive Pro Shampoo (1000 ml), the preparation wash, and Smooth Therapy (1000 ml), the realignment treatment. The treatment carries glyoxylic acid second on its ingredient list and the violet pigment Acid Violet 43 further down it. Piur London sells them as singles; here they are grouped as one protocol kit. The shampoo goes first, and the hair is dried fully in between.

Why these two together

Reactive Pro is one service run in two products, and each has its own job. The shampoo is the preparation step. Piur London describes its Deep Cleansing Purifier formula as removing product build-up and equalising porosity along the whole length. The treatment is the realignment step: glyoxylic acid is spread through the dry hair, left to process at room temperature, rinsed out and set with the flat iron.

Key ingredients

The preparation wash: key actives as Piur London lists them

  • Tamarind fruit extract: a plant extract.
  • Lauryl glucoside: a gentle, plant-derived cleansing agent.
  • Cocamidopropyl betaine: a mild secondary cleanser.
  • Glycerin: a humectant.
  • Pectin: a conditioning film former.

The smoothing treatment: from its complete printed list

  • Glyoxylic acid: second on the list, straight after water. The realignment active, and the reason the treatment is processed and then ironed.
  • Cetearyl alcohol and isopropyl palmitate: fourth and fifth on the list.
  • Acid Violet 43: 21st, the violet pigment on the list.

What to expect

Straight after the preparation wash, the hair feels stripped-clean and a little dry: that is the preparation wash doing its job, and the cool rinse leaves the hair easier to handle. After the treatment, volume and frizz come down and the lengths dry smoother and brighter, while the hair still moves. Regrowth comes through in the client's own texture, and how long the result holds depends on how often the hair is washed and what the client uses at home.

Who it is for

  • Blonde, highlighted or otherwise sensitised hair carrying frizz and volume
  • Salons wanting a glyoxylic-acid smoothing service for their blonde book
  • Lightened hair carrying styling product, silicone or purple-shampoo build-up before a smoothing service (the preparation wash)
  • Clients who want the smoothing without the brassiness a hotter service can bring up on lightened hair

Who it is not for

  • Dark, resistant, never-lightened hair that needs more heat than the printed ceiling to smooth: the Rebonding kit is the one for that hair
  • Hair that fails the strand or elasticity test, stretching when wet without recovering: rebuild it first
  • A client's everyday wash: the shampoo is positioned as the preparation step for the treatment, not a general wash, and Piur London discloses that it contains sodium laureth sulfate
  • Damaged or broken skin on the scalp (the shampoo)

Professional tip

On blonde, the iron is where the colour is won or lost. Start at the bottom of the printed range and look at a strand after the first passes. Go up only if the hair is still not smooth: the number of passes is the dial before the temperature is. And check the brightest pieces after the shampoo rinse: if they feel rough or gummy, stop and assess there, not later.

How to use

Directions as Piur London publishes them

Reactive Pro Shampoo

  1. Apply to wet hair.
  2. Massage gently, without rubbing vigorously.
  3. Leave for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Rinse with cool water to help seal the cuticle.
  5. Dry the hair fully before moving on to the treatment.

Smooth Therapy

  1. Apply evenly throughout the hair, keeping a distance of 1 to 2 cm from the scalp.
  2. Leave on for 40 minutes at room temperature.
  3. Rinse with water until the product is removed.
  4. Dry 100% with a hair dryer.
  5. Flat iron in fine sections at 160 °C to 190 °C, according to the hair type and resistance, 10 to 15 passes per section.

Safety: Reactive Pro Shampoo: Professional use only. Do not use on damaged or broken skin. Dry the hair 100% before the treatment: damp hair changes its result.

Smooth Therapy: Professional use only. Avoid contact with eyes and skin; rinse immediately if contact occurs. In case of allergic reaction, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.

Complete the system

Tools for the service

  • Hair straighteners: for the passes in fine sections that finish the service
  • Hair dryers: to dry the hair completely, before the treatment and again before the iron

Frequently asked questions

What is in the Reactive Pro kit?

Two Piur London salon products, put together as one kit. The preparation shampoo removes build-up and equalises porosity. The realignment treatment carries glyoxylic acid and a violet pigment, Acid Violet 43, on its ingredient list, and it is rinsed out, dried and ironed in. The front of the treatment bottle claims Shine Enhancement and Blonde Preservation. Both products come in 1000 ml bottles and both are for professional use.

In what order are the two used, and can the shampoo be skipped?

The shampoo always goes first and the treatment second. According to Piur London, the shampoo equalises porosity so that the treatment meets the same fibre from root to ends. The hair is dried 100% in between, so the steps are neither swapped nor skipped.

Can a client do the Reactive Pro service at home?

No. Both products are for professional use only. The treatment is a professional hair realignment treatment that is rinsed out, dried and then ironed in fine sections, which makes it a service for the chair.

Which hair is the kit for, and how hot can the iron go?

Blonde, highlighted or otherwise sensitised hair. The bottle says the treatment is engineered for blonde and sensitive hair, and prints an iron range of 160 to 190 °C, according to the hair type and resistance. Hair that fails the strand or elasticity test needs rebuilding first, and dark, resistant hair that needs more heat belongs with the Rebonding kit.

Is the Reactive Pro kit formaldehyde-free?

Each product speaks for itself. The treatment's complete ingredient list carries no formaldehyde and no formaldehyde-releasing preservative, and Piur London presents it with the Formaldehyde Free seal. Piur London presents the shampoo as formaldehyde-free too, with the same V-Label vegan certification as the treatment.

Is there a home care range for Reactive Pro?

Yes. Piur London makes a separate Reactive Pro Home Care range for use at home. It is sold separately as recommended aftercare and is not part of the two professional steps on this page.

How does the Reactive Pro kit differ from the Rebonding kit?

The hair and the iron. The Reactive Pro treatment is engineered for blonde and sensitive hair, according to its bottle, and prints 160 to 190 °C. The Rebonding treatment is for chemically resistant hair and its bottle prints an iron range of 160 to 230 °C. Each has its own preparation shampoo.
