The Rebonding protocol set puts two Piur London salon products together for one professional smoothing service: Rebonding Shampoo (1000 ml), the preparation wash, and Rebonding Keraplex (1000 ml), the realignment treatment. Keraplex carries glyoxylic acid second on its ingredient list. Piur London also sells each one on its own; we group these two here as one protocol set. Both are for chemically resistant hair booked for Rebonding, the shampoo goes first, and the hair is dried completely before the treatment goes on.

Why these two together

Rebonding is one service run in two products, and each product has its own job. The shampoo is the preparation step: Piur London describes its formula as helping to remove residual build-up while equalising porosity across the fibre. So the treatment meets the same hair from root to ends. The treatment is the realignment step: glyoxylic acid is spread through the dry hair, left to process at room temperature, rinsed out and set with the flat iron. What you control is the shampoo massage, how completely the hair is dried in between, and where you set the iron.

Key ingredients

The preparation wash: key actives as Piur London lists them

  • Hypnea musciformis extract: a marine alga extract.
  • Sargassum filipendula extract: a second marine alga extract.
  • Gelidiella acerosa extract: a third marine alga extract.
  • Cocamidopropyl betaine: a mild secondary cleanser.

The smoothing treatment: from its complete printed list

  • Glyoxylic acid: second on the list, straight after water. The realignment active, and the reason the treatment is processed and then ironed.
  • Cetearyl alcohol and isopropyl palmitate: fourth and fifth, the cream base that carries the active along the lengths.
  • Tamarind fruit extract, shea butter, macadamia, olive and argan oils: from seventeenth down, the botanical part of the list.

What to expect

Before the treatment goes on, the hair feels stripped-clean and a little dry, and drags slightly between the fingers: that is the preparation wash doing its job, and it is not conditioned away. If the hair slides between the fingers instead, it is still coated: wash again before drying. After the treatment, volume and frizz come down and the lengths dry smoother, while the hair still moves.

Who it is for

  • Salons running the Rebonding service who want both steps in one order
  • Chemically resistant hair booked for the Rebonding service, any prior chemical history
  • Dense, coarse or resistant hair carrying the volume and frizz the client wants brought down (the treatment)
  • Hair carrying styling product or silicone that would stop the treatment taking evenly (the preparation wash)

Who it is not for

  • Bleached, highlighted or heavily lightened hair: as salon practice, that hair rarely tolerates the top of the treatment's iron range. Smooth Therapy's bottle says it is engineered for blonde and sensitive hair
  • Hair that fails the strand or elasticity test, stretching when wet without recovering: rebuild it first (the treatment)
  • A client's everyday wash: the shampoo contains sodium laureth sulfate and its role is preparing the fibre for the treatment, not a general wash
  • Damaged or broken skin on the scalp (the shampoo)

How to use

Each product's directions as Piur London publishes them, in the order the service runs.

Where it fits in the Piur London range

For blonde, highlighted or sensitised hair, see the Reactive Pro set, grouped the same way. The singles of both protocols sit in Piur London Professional, under the Piur London brand page, and the sets sit together in the Piur London sets category.

Frequently asked questions

What is in the Rebonding set?

Two Piur London salon products, put together as one set. Rebonding Shampoo is the preparation wash, which helps remove build-up and equalise porosity. Rebonding Keraplex is the realignment treatment; it carries glyoxylic acid and is rinsed out, dried and ironed in. Both come in 1000 ml bottles and both are for professional use.

In what order are the two used, and can the shampoo be skipped?

The shampoo always goes first and the treatment second. According to Piur London, skipping the shampoo, or applying the treatment to damp hair, changes how evenly the fibre takes the realignment. So the steps are neither swapped nor skipped, and the hair is dried 100% in between.

Can a client do the Rebonding service at home?

No. Both products are for professional use only, on adult clients. The treatment is a professional hair realignment treatment that is rinsed out, dried and then ironed in fine sections, which makes it a service for the chair.

Which hair is the set for, and which is it not for?

Chemically resistant hair, any prior chemical history, with volume and frizz to bring down. Blonde, highlighted or sensitised hair is what the Reactive Pro set is positioned for, and Smooth Therapy's bottle says it is engineered for blonde and sensitive hair. Hair that fails the strand or elasticity test needs rebuilding first.

Is the Rebonding set formaldehyde-free?

Each product speaks for itself. The treatment's complete ingredient list carries no formaldehyde and no formaldehyde-releasing preservative, and its bottle carries the Formaldehyde Free seal. Piur London presents the shampoo as formaldehyde-free too.

How does the Rebonding set differ from the Reactive Pro set?

The hair and the iron. The Rebonding treatment is for chemically resistant hair and its bottle prints an iron range of 160 to 230 °C. The Reactive Pro treatment is engineered for blonde and sensitive hair, according to its bottle, and prints 160 to 190 °C. Each has its own preparation shampoo.
