Why this set

What to expect in the hand

The Launch Combo clipper weighs 262 g / 9.2 oz and the trimmer 147 g / 5.2 oz; both charge by USB-C, and the set runs up to 2 hours. The clipper is in the hand for most of the cut, the trimmer for the finish. The Vanish weighs 181 g / 6.4 oz, has Finger grips and works with or without its 2.4 m cable.

Professional tip

Brush the blade before you clip a guide on, so no hair holds the guide off the teeth, and keep each Launch Combo machine to the guides the box prints for it: six for the clipper, three for the trimmer. Then let the Vanish meet only short hair: stretch the skin, keep its head flat and work in short, overlapping passes with light pressure, going over an area again rather than pressing harder.

How to use

1. Charge both Launch Combo machines before the first client, then brush the blades clean and oil them with clipper oil. Check that the Vanish foil is seated and has no dent or tear.
2. If you set a blade to zero-gap, do it with the machine off. With the machine off, check that the moving blade sits behind the edge of the fixed blade before it touches skin.
3. Clip on a guide from the clipper's own row, longer first; take the bulk and build the blend with the Launch Combo clipper, against the growth.
4. Set the outline and the detail with the Launch Combo trimmer: skin stretched, light pressure.
5. Finish with the Vanish on hair that is already short: stretch the skin, hold the head flat against it and work in short, overlapping passes with light pressure.
6. Switch everything off and brush the hair out of the blades and the Vanish head before you put the machines down.

Care and maintenance

After each client, switch off and brush the hair from the teeth and around the blades with a soft, dry brush, and wipe the housings with a dry cloth. Clean the Vanish the same way, dry, with its cleaning brush. At the end of the day, and whenever a blade starts to drag, put a few drops of clipper oil across the teeth, run it for a few seconds and wipe off the excess. Brush the hair out of the Vanish foil and cutters without pressing on the foil, and replace the foil and the cutter bars when the foil is damaged or the cut starts to drag. Clean everything dry: never rinse a machine under the tap or put it in liquid.
