Professional tip

Build the blend with the Magic Clip's blade adjustment lever in small steps rather than one jump, and finish each upward stroke by flicking the clipper out and away from the head, so the blend is laid down in stages. Then let the Vanish meet only short hair: stretch the skin, keep its head flat and work in short, overlapping passes with light pressure, going over an area again rather than pressing harder.

How to use

1. Before the first client, brush the blades clean and oil them with clipper oil. Check that the Vanish foil is seated and has no dent or tear.
2. Adjust the Detailer Li to zero-gap with the Pro-Set tool if it needs setting. With the machine off, check that the moving blade sits behind the edge of the fixed blade before it touches skin.
3. Clip an attachment guide on the Magic Clip for the length you want, starting longer rather than shorter; take the bulk against the growth, then blend by moving the blade adjustment lever between passes, flicking out at the end of each stroke.
4. Set the outline with the Detailer Li: stretch the skin and work with light pressure, using the corner of the blade for detail.
5. Finish with the Vanish on hair that is already short: stretch the skin, hold the head flat against it and work in short, overlapping passes with light pressure.
6. Switch everything off and brush the hair out of the blades and the Vanish head before you put the machines down.

Care and maintenance

After each client, switch off and brush the hair from the teeth and around the blades with a soft, dry brush, and wipe the housings with a dry cloth. Clean the Vanish the same way, dry, with its cleaning brush. At the end of the day, and whenever a blade starts to drag, put a few drops of clipper oil across the teeth, run it for a few seconds and wipe off the excess. Brush the hair out of the Vanish foil and cutters without pressing on the foil, and replace the foil and the cutter bars when the foil is damaged or the cut starts to drag. Clean everything dry: never rinse a machine under the tap or put it in liquid.
