The Wahl Set Vapor Switch + stealth Beret Trimmer + Vanish Shaver is a set of three Wahl Professional machines that we put together, each for its own pass in the cut: the Vapor Switch takes the bulk and builds the fade, the stealth Beret sets the outline and does the detail, then the Vanish takes the last pass. The Beret brings a detachable, chrome-plated blade 32.5 mm wide and four guards; the Vapor Switch has a HyperShift™ 2-speed brushless motor at 7000 and 9000 RPM and the F32 DRIFT™ BLADE across 0.5 mm - 1.2 mm. It is the same set as our Wahl Set Vapor Switch + Hi-Viz Trimmer + Vanish Shaver, with the stealth Beret as the trimmer in place of the Hi-Viz. Each machine is also sold on its own.

Why this set

The stealth Beret, which WAHL describes as super-slim and light in weight, has a detachable blade 32.5 mm wide and four guards, 3 mm, 6 mm, 10 mm and 13 mm, for blending beard length back into the line. The Hi-Viz, which sits in our Wahl Set Vapor Switch + Hi-Viz Trimmer + Vanish Shaver, has a zero-gap adjustable blade and its own charging stand. The Beret works cord/cordless on Li-ion, with up to 75 min run time and a 32.5 mm blade; WAHL describes it as Super-slim and light in weight. The Vapor Switch weighs 288 g / 10.1 oz and has two speeds, 7000 and 9000 RPM, with up to 3.5 hours run time from a 120 min charge. The pack adds: Quick-Charge: 5 minutes plugged in = 10 minutes of cutting. Between clients it sits on its power station. The Vanish weighs 181 g / 6.4 oz, has Finger grips and works with or without its 2.4 m cable.

Professional tip

Work the outline with the Beret's blade flat and the skin stretched, and use its four guards, 3 mm, 6 mm, 10 mm and 13 mm, for blending beard length back into the line rather than for bulk. The bulk stays with the Vapor Switch, so the Beret's blade is kept for the line.

How to use

1. Before the first client, check that the Beret's blade is seated, brush the clipper and trimmer blades clean and oil them with clipper oil. Check that the Vanish foil is seated and has no dent or tear.
2. If you set the Vapor Switch blade to zero-gap, do it with the clipper off. Still with it off, check that the moving blade sits behind the edge of the fixed blade before it touches skin.
3. Take the length down with the Vapor Switch and a guard from the seven in its box; then fade up from the bald band without a guard, opening the blade with the taper lever in small steps.
4. With the Beret, clip on a guard for beard length or work without one for the outline; stretch the skin and set the line with light pressure.
5. Finish with the Vanish on hair that is already short: stretch the skin, hold the head flat against it and work in short, overlapping passes with light pressure.
6. Switch everything off and brush the hair out of the blades and the Vanish head before you put the machines down; stand the Vapor Switch back on its power station.

Care and maintenance

After each client, switch off, brush the hair from the teeth and around the blades of the Vapor Switch and the Beret with a soft, dry brush, and wipe the housings with a dry cloth. From time to time, with the Beret off, take its blade off and brush out the hair underneath before you refit it. At the end of the day, and whenever a blade starts to drag, put a few drops of clipper oil, such as the Wahl Special Blade Oil 200ml or the Wahl Oil Tube 10ml, across the teeth of the clipper and trimmer blades, run them for a few seconds and wipe off the excess. Clean the Vanish dry with its cleaning brush: brush the hair out of the foil and the cutters without pressing on the foil, and replace the foil and the cutter bars when the foil is damaged or the cut starts to drag.
