Salvatore Tanino Therapy Tannin Smoothing Kit Step A + Step B + Step D 2500ml is the complete plant-tannin smoothing service finished with a moisture mask: the Step A clarifier that preps the fibre, the Step B tannin smoother sealed with the flat iron, and the Step D Water Replenishment mask that puts hydration back into the smoothed lengths. Worked without formaldehyde, it smooths frizzy, unruly hair to a soft, glossy, easy-to-manage finish. Where the ABG kit finishes with a cuticle-seal mask, this one finishes with hydration. A complete salon kit: Step A 1000ml, Step B 1000ml and Step D 500g, 2500ml in total.

Why smooth then hydrate
A tannin smoothing service realigns the fibre and sets it with heat, and after the iron the lengths hold their result better when the moisture drawn out during the service is put back. This kit runs the whole service in one box. Step A clarifies and opens the cuticle so the tannin lands evenly. Step B is the service itself: the plant-tannin smoother that realigns the fibre and is set with the flat iron, without formaldehyde or glyoxylic acid. Step D then replenishes moisture, so the smoothed hair leaves the chair soft and conditioned rather than dry. The alternative ABG kit closes with the Step G cuticle-seal mask instead; this kit closes with hydration.
What is in the kit and what each step does
Step A, the Cuticle Prepper Clarifying Shampoo, is the clarifier that opens the cuticle so the smoothing step is taken up evenly. Step B, Capillary Styling, is the tannin smoother and the heart of the service: Brazilian plant tannins with proteins that realign the fibre, sealed with the iron, without glyoxylic acid. Step D, Water Replenishment, is the moisture mask, rich in moringa, macadamia and coconut oils with elastin and vitamins, worked through the lengths after the smoothing to put hydration back. See the full INCI of each step on its product image.
What to expect
Expect frizzy, unruly or wavy hair to leave the chair smoother, glossier and far easier to comb, with the movement kept rather than a poker-straight finish. Because the clarifier opens the cuticle, the tannin lands evenly and the iron sets a consistent result, and the Step D mask is what the client feels afterwards: smoothed lengths that are soft and hydrated rather than dry. On coloured or lightened lengths the smoothing shows most, where the hair is most porous. It smooths and conditions the fibre through a plant-tannin system; it is not a permanent or chemical straightening and does not change the hair's structure.
Who it is for
- Salons that want the smoothing service and its hydrating finish in one complete kit
- Stylists smoothing frizzy, unruly, wavy or coloured hair who want a formaldehyde-free plant-tannin service
- Most hair types, including coloured and lightened hair, after a strand test
Who it is not for
- Anyone after a home smoothing routine: the smoothing service is professional back-bar work
- Clients wanting a permanent chemical straightening, which this plant-tannin service is not
- A stylist who will iron the smoother but skip the Step D moisture mask that closes the service
Professional tip
The result lives on how well you dry before Step B and how thin your sections are under the iron. Take the hair to about half-dry after the clarifier, apply Step B off the scalp, then iron in thin, clean sections at a temperature set from your strand test. Give Step D its full working time before you rinse, so the moisture is taken up rather than sitting on the surface, especially on lightened lengths. Finish with a blow-out so the client sees the smoothed, hydrated result.
How to use
Read this as one continuous salon service, not three products used in turn. The TPRK kit is a plant-tannin smoothing service finished with a moisture mask: it takes frizzy, unruly hair to a soft, glossy, easy-to-manage result, then puts hydration back into the smoothed lengths. Work on freshly clarified hair sectioned into four to six even parts, and plan around 90 minutes to two hours in the chair for a full head. The amounts below are a professional guide: use enough to saturate each section without flooding the scalp, scaling up for long, dense or porous hair and down for fine or short hair. One kit covers several full-head services.
The order matters, and this is where the sequence trips people up, so read it as a chain. You clarify to strip build-up and open the cuticle, lay the tannin down and set it with the flat iron, and only then feed moisture back in. The key point: Step D comes after the iron, on hair that is already smoothed and sealed. The iron has locked the new alignment into the fibre, so the moisture mask that follows conditions the result without loosening it. Iron first, then D. Applying D before the iron, or skipping the iron, breaks the chain and gives a softer, shorter-lived smoothing.
- Step A, clarify. On wet hair, work the Cuticle Prepper Clarifying Shampoo from roots to ends and massage without scrubbing the fibre. Rinse and repeat two to three times until the hair is squeaky clean, then blow-dry to about 50 percent and divide the head into four to six even sections for control. This clarifier lifts oils, product and hard-water minerals and opens the cuticle, so the tannin in the next step deposits evenly along the strand instead of grabbing onto build-up.
- Step B, smooth. Apply Capillary Styling off the scalp, section by section from roots to ends, until each section is evenly coated but not running, then comb through so the tannin sits on every strand. Leave it to process for at least 30 minutes. The plant tannins bond to the hair keratin and coat the cuticle, softening the frizz and drawing the fibre into a smoother alignment; because it carries no formaldehyde and no glyoxylic acid, it conditions and realigns rather than permanently changing the hair's structure. Rinse with cool to lukewarm water until it runs clear, then blow-dry the hair fully.
- Set it with the flat iron. On fully dried hair, pass the iron slowly in thin, clean sections, 10 to 20 passes as the hair needs, at a temperature set from your strand test and kept lower on fragile or lightened lengths. This is the step that fixes the service: the heat sets the new tannin alignment into the fibre, so the smoothing holds through everything that follows. At the end of this step the hair is smoothed and sealed.
- Step D, replenish moisture and hand off. On towel-dried hair, apply the Water Replenishment mask from the mid-lengths to the ends, comb through and leave for 10 to 20 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and finish with a blow-out. Its moringa, macadamia and coconut oils with elastin and vitamins put back the moisture the service draws out and settle the fibre after the iron, so the hair leaves the chair soft rather than dry and porous. It works on top of the sealed smoothing, never against it. Send the client home with a gentle maintenance duo for the smoothed lengths, and rebook the service as the smoothing grows out so each visit refreshes the result on the new growth.
For professional use. Do a patch test and a strand test before the service, and set your iron temperature from the strand test. External use only. This kit contains Amyl Cinnamal, Cinnamal, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Coumarin, Hexyl Cinnamal and Linalool across its steps; check the declared allergens on each product image before the service. Keep out of sunlight and store below 40C. Avoid contact with the eyes; if it occurs, rinse thoroughly with running water. Keep each pack closed after use and out of reach of children and pets. If irritation occurs, stop use and seek advice.

Frequently asked questions
What is in this kit and what does each step do?
Three steps: Step A Cuticle Prepper 1000ml clarifies and opens the cuticle, Step B Capillary Styling 1000ml is the plant-tannin smoother set with the iron, and Step D Water Replenishment 500g is the moisture mask that replenishes hydration after the smoothing. Together they are the complete Salvatore smoothing service finished with a hydrating mask, worked without formaldehyde.
Does the kit contain formaldehyde?
No. The smoothing is a Brazilian plant-tannin system, worked without formaldehyde, a formaldehyde releaser or glyoxylic acid. The tannin realigns the fibre and the flat iron sets it, then the Step D mask replenishes moisture. That is what lets it smooth frizzy hair without an aldehyde smoothing agent. Always run a patch test and a strand test before the service.
How is this different from the ABG kit?
Both are the same Step A clarifier and Step B tannin smoother. The difference is the third step: this kit finishes with the Step D Water Replenishment moisture mask for hydration, while the ABG kit finishes with the Step G cuticle-seal mask, worked lock by lock and passed with the iron. Choose this one when you want a hydrating finish, ABG when you want the cuticle sealed.
Can I use it on coloured or lightened hair?
Yes, after a strand test. The service suits most hair types, including coloured and lightened hair, and on those more porous lengths the smoothing often shows most. Set your iron temperature from the strand test and keep the sections thin. If the strand test shows the hair is too fragile to take the iron, do not proceed with the service.
Is the Step D mask used in the salon or at home?
Both. Step D closes the service in the chair as the hydrating finish, and it also goes home with the client for weekly use, 1 to 2 times a week, to keep the smoothed lengths soft. The smoothing itself, Steps A and B, is professional back-bar work and is not a home routine.
