Salvatore Tanino Therapy Detox and Reconstruction Kit ABFD (3000ml) is Salvatore's heavier smoothing service for hair that has been through a lot, its plant-tannin smoother worked without formaldehyde or glyoxylic acid. Step A detoxes and clarifies, Step B lays that tannin and sets it with a flat iron, then a stabilising mask and a moisture mask close the service. It smooths and feeds at once, so stressed hair is not left dry.
At a glance
- Type: salon service, a four-step smoothing and recovery in one box
- Best for: compromised, frizzy hair that needs smoothing and steadying together
- The chemistry: a plant tannin, iron-set, with collagen, macadamia and elastin
- Free from: formaldehyde and glyoxylic acid on the smoother
- Size: 3000ml box, two 1000ml bottles and two 500ml masks
Why this service
Compromised hair smooths badly when the process only takes weight off and gives nothing back. This box pairs the two: a plant tannin eases the frizz while two masks steady and feed the fibre in the same visit. We reach for it on the client whose hair is frizzy but also porous, coloured or over-worked, where a bare smoother would leave the lengths dry. It is the fuller service, not the quick reset, so plan the chair time. Made in Brazil at Salvatore's plant in Presidente Prudente.
What is in the kit
Four products, run as one service. Step A is the Cuticle Prepper, a detox wash that lifts product and buildup so the tannin meets a clean fibre. Step B is the Capillary Styling smoother, the plant polyphenol combed through and set with a flat iron per Salvatore's protocol. Step F is the Chemical Control mask, a fibre-stabilising step carrying collagen, macadamia and antioxidants. Step D is the Water Replenishment mask, a moisture step with macadamia and elastin. Each pack carries its own ingredient list.
What to expect
Hair comes out smoother and lighter through the lengths, the frizz calmed and the surface easier to blow out, while the masks leave it feeling fed rather than stripped. Over-worked hair holds up better through a smoothing when a recovery step follows in the same chair. The result grows out softly, and a gentle aftercare wash at home stretches it further.
Who it is for
- Compromised, frizzy hair that a client wants smoothed without being left dry
- Coloured or bleached hair, since the Step B tannin carries no formaldehyde releaser, after a strand test
- Clients who want smoothing and a recovery step booked as one longer service
Who it is not for
- A client after only a quick volume drop, where the shorter reset box is the fit
- Hair too fragile to take the service, where a strand test warns you off first
- A home user on their own, since the tannin step belongs in professional hands
Professional tip
The result lives in the prep, and the slip we see most is a rushed detox. Wash twice with Step A until the hair squeaks, because any residue keeps the tannin from laying evenly. Take clean, thin sections through Step B and set each with a measured iron pass. We would give Step F and Step D their full time too, since the recovery half is what keeps compromised hair workable after the smoothing.
How to use
Run the four in order, from the detox to the moisture step, on hair you have planned and parted. The tannin wants an even canvas, so do not rush the wash or crowd the sections.
Keep your parts thin and your passes patient, because the finish is only as even as the work you put in. Give the two masks their leave-on before you close.
- Detox with Step A. Shampoo twice and rinse, because product on the strand keeps the tannin from binding evenly to a clean fibre.
- Smooth with Step B. Towel the hair, comb the tannin through in sections and set it with the flat iron per the protocol, so the smoothing lands even before you move on.
- Steady with Step F. Work the stabilising mask through and give it its pack time, because it settles the fibre around the chemical service rather than leaving it raw.
- Replenish with Step D. Apply the moisture mask, leave it its time and rinse, so the macadamia and elastin bring softness back as the service closes.
External use only. Avoid the eyes and rinse with running water if contact happens. Work in a ventilated area and keep the packs closed, below 40 degrees and out of sunlight, and out of reach of children and pets. Declared fragrance allergens differ between the four products, and the two masks' leave-on times are on their packs; check each before the service. If any abnormal reaction occurs, stop and seek advice. See each pack for the full ingredient list and declared allergens.
Where it fits in the range
ABFD is the heavier smoothing box of the system, the one for compromised hair that needs steadying as much as smoothing. For a quick volume drop the shorter reset kit is the road, and when the fibre needs building before anything else the reconstruction box comes first. Which letter step does what across the range, and which kit is which protocol, is set out in our Tanino Therapy steps A to O guide. The rest of the range sits under Salvatore Tanino Therapy.
In short
- A 3000ml four-part smoothing and recovery service; no formaldehyde on the smoother
- Detox, smooth with an iron-set plant tannin, then steady and replenish with two masks
- Take thin parts and give each mask its full leave-on for an even, kinder result
- Built for compromised hair that a bare smoother would leave dry

Frequently asked questions
What is the ABFD kit for?
It is Salvatore's fuller smoothing service for compromised hair: a detox wash, a plant-tannin smoother set with an iron, and two masks that steady and feed the fibre. The recovery half is what sets it apart from a bare smoothing.
Does it contain formaldehyde?
The smoother carries no formaldehyde and no glyoxylic acid; the smoothing comes from a plant tannin set with a flat iron. Check the two mask packs for their full ingredient lists and the declared fragrance allergens, which are not the same across the four products.
How is it different from the quick reset kit?
This is the heavier service, with a detox wash and two recovery masks around the smoother, built for hair that is compromised as well as frizzy. The shorter reset box drops volume in a visit without the extra masks. Choose by how much recovery the hair needs.
Is it safe on coloured or bleached hair?
The tannin carries no formaldehyde releaser, so it is made for lightened hair, and the recovery masks help it hold up. Always run a strand test first and judge that section before you commit to the full head.
Can I buy the steps separately?
Yes. The box holds Step A, Step B, Step F and Step D, and each is sold on its own page, linked below. The kit is the value route when you run the full service; the singles suit topping up one step.
