Why this set
The A and B pairing is Salvatore's official smoothing mix, and it is what does the work here. We put two of Salvatore's care products alongside it, the moisture mask and the finishing oil, so the client leaves with the aftercare in hand rather than buying it separately. We reach for it when a client wants the lasting smooth finish and a simple way to keep it soft at home. The care half is ours, not a longer official protocol, so treat A and B as the service and D and E as upkeep. Made in Brazil at Salvatore's plant in Presidente Prudente.
What is in the set
Four products across the service and the aftercare. Step A is the Cuticle Prepper, a clarifying wash that lifts buildup so the tannin meets a clean fibre. Step B is the Capillary Styling smoother, the plant polyphenol combed through and set with a flat iron per Salvatore's protocol. Step D is the Water Replenishment mask, a wash-day moisture step with macadamia, coconut and elastin. Step E is the Essential Oils step, a lightweight oil that finishes the ends and guards them from heat. Each pack carries its own ingredient list.
What to expect
Hair comes out smoother and lighter through the lengths, the frizz calmed and the finish holding far longer than a blow-out, because the tannin is the lasting part. Between visits the mask keeps the lengths hydrated and the oil keeps the ends soft and guarded, so the result looks kept rather than grown-out. The smoothing eases gradually with no hard line, and the natural movement stays.
Who it is for
- Clients who want the lasting A and B service and the aftercare in one box
- Coloured and bleached hair, since the tannin carries no formaldehyde releaser, after a strand test
- A salon that likes to send the client home with matched upkeep products
Who it is not for
- A client after a poker-straight, glassy look, which a tannin smoothing is not
- A plant-only routine, since the mask carries elastin
- A home user on their own, since the tannin step belongs in professional hands
Professional tip
The result lives in the prep, and the slip we see most is a rushed clarify. Wash twice with Step A until the hair squeaks, because any residue keeps the tannin from laying evenly. Take clean, thin sections through Step B and dry each before you press it, so the smooth line sets true. Send the mask and the oil home with a simple routine, since the smoothing lasts longer when the client keeps the lengths fed between visits.
How to use
Run the A and B smoothing as the service, then hand the client the mask and the oil for home, because the first two are professional steps and the last two are daily upkeep.
Keep your sections thin and your passes patient through the smoothing, and read each pack before you start.
- Clarify with Step A. Shampoo twice and rinse, because product on the strand keeps the tannin from binding evenly to a clean fibre.
- Smooth with Step B. Comb the tannin through towel-dried sections and set each with the flat iron per the protocol, so the smooth line locks in place before you rinse.
- Send the mask home (Step D). The client uses it on wash day, worked through the lengths and left its pack time, because that is when dry hair takes moisture best.
- Send the oil home (Step E). A drop or two on the ends of dry hair finishes and guards them, so the smoothing stays soft and protected between visits.
External use only. Avoid the eyes and rinse with running water if contact happens. Work in a ventilated area and keep the packs closed, below 40 degrees and out of sunlight, and out of reach of children and pets. Declared fragrance allergens differ between the four products, and the mask's leave-on time is on its tub; check each pack before use. If any abnormal reaction occurs, stop and seek advice. See each pack for the full ingredient list and declared allergens.
Where it fits in the range
ABDE is the smoothing-with-aftercare corner of the system, the A and B service boxed with take-home care. When you want the smoothing alone, the A and B kit is the plain route; when the fibre needs building first, the reconstruction box comes before any smoothing. Which letter step does what across the range, and which kit is which protocol, is set out in our Tanino Therapy steps A to O guide. The rest of the range sits under Salvatore Tanino Therapy.

Frequently asked questions
What is the ABDE set for?
It is the A and B tannin service boxed with two care products, a moisture mask and a finishing oil, for upkeep at home. The smoothing is the service; the mask and oil are the aftercare we pair with it.
Is the four-step combination an official Salvatore protocol?
The A and B pairing is Salvatore's official mix. The mask and oil are two Salvatore care products we added for take-home upkeep, so the four-piece set is our curated pairing rather than a single four-step protocol from the maker.
Does it contain formaldehyde?
The smoother carries no formaldehyde and no glyoxylic acid; the smoothing comes from a plant tannin set with a flat iron. Check each pack for the full ingredient list and the declared fragrance allergens, which are not the same across the four products.
Is it safe on coloured or bleached hair?
The tannin carries no formaldehyde releaser, so it is made for most hair, coloured and bleached included. Always run a strand test first on lightened hair and judge that section before you commit to the full head.
Can I buy the steps separately?
Yes. The set holds Step A, Step B, Step D and Step E, and each is sold on its own page, linked below. The set is the tidy way to buy the smoothing and its aftercare together; the singles suit topping up one.
