The Salvatore Tanino Therapy Capillary Styling - Tannin Smoothing Care - Step B - 100ml is the trial-size format of Salvatore's patent-pending Taninoplastia® salon system. Same smoothing-active formula as the salon jars, in a single-application size for stylists testing the protocol or clients topping up between professional services. The Brazilian tannins bond to the protein matrix and seal under the heat of the flat iron — aligned strands, satin shine, naturally smooth movement, with zero formaldehyde and zero acrid fumes.

What it is

Capillary Styling Step B is Salvatore's patent-pending Taninoplastia® smoothing technology, here in 100 ml trial format. The formula combines plant-derived tannins from Brazilian barbatimão, angico and Pau d'Arco with a protein matrix of gelatin, collagen, silk sericin and keratin. When the flat iron passes over the strand, the tannins bond to the protein matrix and form a network inside the intercellular cement, sealing the cuticle and aligning the fibre. This 100 ml is the ideal way to test the protocol before stocking the salon jars, or to pair with the trial-size Salvatore Tanino Therapy Smoothing Kit Step A + Step B - 2x100ml.

Hero ingredients

  • Brazilian tannin trio — Stryphnodendron Adstringens (barbatimão), Piptadenia Colubrina (angico) and tannic acid form the smoothing backbone that activates under heat.
  • Pau d'Arco extract (Tabebuia Impetiginosa) — Brazilian biodiversity botanical with antioxidant and astringent properties.
  • Protein matrix — gelatin, collagen, silk sericin and keratin proteins fill cuticle gaps and build the smoothing scaffold.
  • Amazonian butters — tucumã seed butter (Astrocaryum) and cupuaçu seed butter (Theobroma grandiflorum) preserve fatty acids and lipids of the natural fibre.
  • B-complex & antioxidant pack — panthenol (B5), niacinamide (B3), pyridoxine (B6), vitamin E, vitamin C and calcium pantothenate protect the fibre during heat activation.

What you can expect

Hair leaves the chair aligned, frizz-controlled and satin-shiny, with movement that reads as your natural texture refined rather than flattened. Volume reduces noticeably, the cuticle seals visibly smoother, and styling time drops because frizz no longer fights the brush. With a sulfate-free, salt-free home-care routine the result holds three to six months, gradually softening as new growth comes in — never a hard regrowth line.

Who it is for

  • Stylists testing the Tanino Therapy protocol on a single client before stocking salon-size formats
  • Clients on the move who need a trial or top-up size between salon visits
  • Frizzy, unruly, wavy or coarse hair seeking a controlled, plant-based smoothing service
  • Chemically processed, color-treated or highlighted hair (cap iron at 200 °C for bleached lengths)

Who it is not for

  • Clients with declared sensitivity to label-listed fragrance allergens (coumarin, cinnamal, cinnamyl alcohol)
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding (general salon-service caution; consult a healthcare professional)
  • Under 16 years old; broken, irritated or sunburned scalp
  • Clients seeking a permanent, fully straight finish — this is alignment, not relaxer chemistry

Pro tips

  • The 100 ml format covers approximately one short-to-medium hair application — budget product accordingly per client length.
  • Reduce hair to roughly 50% moisture with a blow dryer before applying — too wet and the tannins dilute, too dry and they don't distribute.
  • Respect the 30-minute minimum processing time. Resistant or virgin hair benefits from up to 60 minutes.
  • Cap the iron at 200 °C for bleached or blonde hair to avoid dryness or tint loss; virgin hair tolerates 200–230 °C.
  • Run 10 to 20 slow passes per thin section, with extra weight at the root and lighter passes at the ends.
  • Do not skip Step A — without the clarifier, tannin uptake drops and the result fades faster.
  • For experienced stylists, the Brazilian Method (50% rinse-off before sealing) extends durability — see Section 9 Method 2 below.

How to use

Two professional protocols. Choose based on hair type, desired durability and your training level.

Method 1 — Manufacturer protocol (label-faithful)

  1. Wash hair with Salvatore Tanino Therapy Cuticle Prepper Clarifying Shampoo - Step A - 100ml until residue is fully lifted.
  2. Remove approximately 50% of the moisture with a hair dryer.
  3. Apply Step B lock by lock with a brush, from root to tips.
  4. Distribute evenly with a fine comb — every strand properly moistened.
  5. Leave on for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Rinse completely with running water until the product is fully removed.
  7. Blow-dry to 100% to activate the shine.
  8. Flat-iron in thin sections, 10 to 20 slow passes, 180–200 °C (max 200 °C on bleached hair).

Method 2 — Brazilian salon protocol (50% rinse-off seal)

  1. Wash hair with Step A Cuticle Prepper (one or two lathers depending on residue load).
  2. Towel-dry, then remove ~50% of moisture with a hair dryer.
  3. Apply Step B lock by lock with a brush, from root to tips.
  4. Distribute evenly with a fine comb.
  5. Leave on 30 to 60 minutes depending on hair type and porosity.
  6. Rinse only ~50% of the product out — leave the remainder as a sealing film.
  7. Blow-dry 100% with the residual product still in.
  8. Flat-iron in thin sections, 10 to 20 slow passes per section: 180–200 °C bleached/blonde, 200–230 °C virgin/resistant.
  9. Allow hair to cool, then rinse the remaining product with cool water.
  10. Optional: condition with the Step D Water Replenishment Mask, then blow-dry to a satin finish.
For trained professionals or supervised at-home use. Patch-test 24–48h before service. Avoid contact with eyes; rinse with running water if irritation occurs. Keep out of reach of children and pets, away from direct sunlight, package closed after use. External use only.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Tanino Therapy Capillary Styling Step B formaldehyde-free?

Yes. The full INCI on the bottle contains no formaldehyde, no methylene glycol and no formaldehyde-releasing preservatives such as DMDM hydantoin, quaternium-15 or imidazolidinyl urea. The smoothing action comes from plant-derived tannins in the Brazilian barbatimão, angico and Pau d'Arco extracts, bonded to a protein matrix and activated by the heat of the flat iron — not by aldehyde-based chemistry. Salvatore's Taninoplastia® line is built around 0% formaldehyde and derivatives.

Is the application safe? Are there fumes or eye irritation during the service?

With no formaldehyde and no formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, there are no acrid fumes during the flat-iron seal. Standard salon precautions still apply: avoid contact with eyes, work in a ventilated area, keep the package closed between uses, and rinse with running water if irritation occurs. The product is for external professional use only and should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

How long does the smoothing result last?

Three to six months with proper aftercare and the right application protocol. Duration depends on hair type, growth rate, washing frequency and which home-care products you use between salon visits. Sulfate-rich shampoos, sodium chloride and chlorinated water shorten the result; tannin-safe maintenance pushes it toward the six-month end of the range. The Brazilian salon protocol (Method 2 in How to use) typically holds slightly longer than the manufacturer protocol.

Can I use this on bleached, colored or chemically processed hair?

Yes. Capillary Styling Step B is verified safe for color-treated, bleached and chemically processed hair when the iron temperature is correctly capped. Use 180 to 200 °C on bleached or blonde lengths and never exceed 200 °C, otherwise dryness or tint loss can occur. Virgin or resistant hair tolerates 200 to 230 °C. The formula reduces frizz and aligns the cuticle without modifying the cortex structure, so it does not strip color or compromise existing chemistry.

How much hair will 100 ml cover?

Approximately one short-to-medium hair application. Coverage depends on length, density and porosity — very long, thick or porous hair will need more than 100 ml for full saturation, in which case the 500 ml or 1000 ml format is more economical. The 100 ml is ideal as a trial size before stocking the salon jars, or as a top-up between salon visits.

Do I need Step A Cuticle Prepper first, or can I apply Step B on its own?

Step A is the protocol-correct opener and should not be skipped. Its anionic deep-cleansing action lifts product residue, sebum and mineral deposits, then opens the cuticle so the tannins and protein matrix in Step B can bind fully to the fibre. Without Step A, tannin uptake drops, the smoothing is patchy, and the result fades much faster. The 2x100ml Salvatore Tanino Therapy Smoothing Kit pairs both trial-size steps at the right ratio.

What aftercare keeps the result looking its best?

Use a sulfate-free, salt-free shampoo and a weekly hydration mask. The Salvatore Tanino Therapy Moisturizing Duo is the natural home-care pair for tannin-smoothed hair — same line, formulation-matched, hydration-led. Layer in the Step D Water Replenishment Mask weekly for a deeper reset. Avoid chlorine, sea water and high-heat styling without thermal protection. With this routine the result holds wash after wash, toward the six-month end of the three-to-six-month range.
