Why the Chromini
A cut in the chair runs in a fixed order: the clipper takes the bulk, the trimmer sets the outline and the edges, and the foil shaver finishes. This is the trimmer in that order, with one blade for all of it. WAHL designs it for “Delicate Contours & Precise Edges, Close Trimming, Line-Ups and Detail Work”. The guides are for short detail work; the outline itself is drawn with the bare blade.
Who it is not for
- Taking the bulk off or cutting a taper - that is a clipper's job: the Wahl 5 Star cordless Magic Clip Red
- A skin-smooth finish - that is a foil shaver's job: the Wahl Vanish Shaver
Professional tip
Check the charge light before you start a line-up, so the cut does not stop halfway along the line. If it is low, finish the client's detail work first and put it on charge before the next outline.
How to use
- Charge it before first use.
- With the trimmer switched off, check the blade and oil it.
- Trim the outline with no guide.
- Fit a guide for short detail work.
- Switch off, detach the blade and brush out underneath.
Care and maintenance
After each client, switch off and brush the teeth of the blade clean. At the end of the day, and whenever it starts to drag, put a few drops of clipper oil across the teeth, run it briefly and wipe off the excess. From time to time, detach the blade and brush out underneath. Keep Wahl Special Blade Oil 200ml at the station for the daily oiling, and Wahl Oil Tube 10ml in the case for work away from it.
Complete your Wahl setup
- In a set - with a clipper, in one listing
- Pair it with a clipper - for the bulk and the taper before the outline
- Keep the blade in shape - clipper oil for the station and the case
Frequently asked questions
What is the single-blade Chromini?
One cordless detail trimmer, one German-made U-blade and four guides, sold under its own listing.
Can the blade be taken off?
Yes. The U-blade detaches, which WAHL says is “for easy cleaning”. Switch the trimmer off first, and check the blade sits firmly when you refit it.
Which guides come with it?
Four: 1.5 at 1/16 inch (1.5 mm), 3 at 1/8 inch (3.0 mm), 4.5 at 3/16 inch (4.5 mm) and 6 at 1/4 inch (6.0 mm).
How do I know when it needs charging?
It has an LED charge indicator. In WAHL's words: “Smart LED charge indicdator [sic] displays battery level.”
How do I clean and oil the blade?
Switch it off. Brush the teeth clean after each client; at the end of the day put a few drops of clipper oil across the teeth, run it briefly and wipe off the excess. Clean it dry; never rinse it.
