The Wahl Senior 2.0 is a cord/cordless clipper from WAHL's 5-Star series, for the fade and the bulk. WAHL designed it for “Close Precision Fading and Tapering”. It pairs an 8000 RPM brushless motor with a zero-gap adjustable blade with a 0.7-1.5 mm setting, and runs 2.5 hours on a charge.

Why the Senior 2.0

A cut in the chair runs in order: the bulk comes off, the fade is blended, the outline is set and the finish is shaved. This clipper covers the first two. Two things on it matter most in a close fade. The taper lever works in click positions or free-flow, so each step of the taper can sit exactly where you put it, or move smoothly when you blend. And the blade adjusts to zero-gap, so the shortest step of the fade can be as short as the blade allows.

What to expect in the hand

In the hand it is a full-size cord/cordless clipper with a metal bottom housing. The routine around it is short: it goes back on its stand between sessions, it keeps working on the cable when you want it to, and it is cleaned dry at the chair with a brush.

Professional tip

Let the lever's click positions carry the taper. Step through it one click at a time, so every stage of the fade sits at a repeatable height, and switch to free-flow only when you want to blend between two steps by feel.

How to use

1. Charge it on its stand before first use.
2. With it switched off, check the blade setting and put a few drops of clipper oil across the teeth.
3. Take the bulk out with a guide, starting with the longest length you need.
4. Switch it off after each client and brush the hair out of the blade.

Care and maintenance

After each client, brush the teeth clean. At the end of the day, and whenever it starts to drag, put a few drops of clipper oil across the teeth, let it run for a moment and wipe off the excess.
