Salvatore Tanino Therapy Detox & Reconstruction Kit ABFD Step A + Step B + Step F + Step D 3000ml is the full plant-tannin smoothing service with a detox and reconstruction aftercare in one box: the Step A clarifier that detoxes and preps the fibre, the Step B tannin smoother sealed with the flat iron, the Step F Chemical Control mask that conditions and rebalances the pH after the chemical work, and the Step D Water Replenishment moisture mask. Worked without formaldehyde, it smooths frizzy hair and settles the chemically-processed lengths back to soft and balanced. A complete salon kit: Step A 1000ml, Step B 1000ml, Step F 500ml, Step D 500ml, 3000ml in total.

At a glance

  • Role: the complete detox, smooth, rebalance and hydrate service
  • In the kit: Step A Cuticle Prepper Clarifying Shampoo 1000ml, Step B Capillary Styling tannin smoother 1000ml, Step F Chemical Control mask 500ml, Step D Water Replenishment moisture mask 500ml
  • Best for: salons smoothing and reconstructing chemically-processed hair, without formaldehyde
  • Hair type: most hair types, including coloured and lightened after a strand test
  • Key benefit: Brazilian plant tannins realign the fibre and the iron sets it, then a pH-balancing mask and a moisture mask condition the chemically-processed lengths (full INCI of each step on its product image)
  • Size: 3000ml (1000 + 1000 + 500 + 500), the service plus reconstruction care

Why detox and reconstruction

A chemical smoothing service shifts the hair towards the alkaline side and leaves the lengths more porous, so it holds better when the fibre is rebalanced and reconstructed afterwards. The ABFD kit puts the whole run in one box. Step A detoxes and opens the cuticle so the tannin bonds evenly. Step B is the service itself: the plant-tannin smoother that realigns the fibre and is set with the flat iron. Step F then rebalances the pH of the chemically-processed lengths, and Step D replenishes the moisture the service draws out. Every step is worked without formaldehyde.

What is in the kit and what each step does

Step A, the Cuticle Prepper Clarifying Shampoo, opens the cuticle so the smoothing step is taken up evenly. Step B, Capillary Styling, is the tannin smoother and the heart of the service: Brazilian plant tannins with proteins that realign the fibre, sealed with the iron, without glyoxylic acid. Step F, Chemical Control, is the pH-balancing step: plant tannins with collagen and keratin, macadamia butter and coffee-seed oil, used after the smoothing to condition the chemically-processed lengths. Step D, Water Replenishment, is the moisture mask, rich in moringa, macadamia and coconut oils with elastin and vitamins. See the full INCI of each step on its product image.

What to expect

Expect frizzy, unruly or wavy hair to leave the chair smoother, glossier and far easier to comb, with the movement kept rather than a poker-straight finish. The Chemical Control and moisture masks are what the client feels afterwards: chemically-processed lengths that comb through instead of catching, conditioned rather than rough and porous. On coloured or lightened lengths the smoothing and reconstruction show most. It smooths and conditions the fibre through a plant-tannin system; it is not a permanent or chemical straightening and does not change the hair's structure.

Who it is for

  • Salons that want the smoothing service and the pH rebalance and moisture reconstruction in one complete kit
  • Stylists smoothing frizzy, unruly, wavy or coloured hair who want a formaldehyde-free plant-tannin service
  • Most hair types, including coloured and lightened hair, after a strand test

Who it is not for

  • Anyone after a home smoothing routine: the smoothing service is professional back-bar work
  • Clients wanting a permanent chemical straightening, which this plant-tannin service is not
  • A stylist who will iron the smoother but skip the Step F rebalance after the chemical work

Professional tip

The result lives on how well you dry before Step B and how thin your sections are under the iron. Take the hair to about half-dry after the smoother, then iron in thin, clean sections at a temperature set from your strand test. Give Step F and Step D their full working time before you rinse, so the pH-balancing and moisture masks are taken up rather than sitting on the surface, especially on lightened lengths. Rinse cool between the masks to keep the cuticle smooth.

How to use

  1. Step A, detox: on wet hair, apply the Cuticle Prepper Clarifying Shampoo from roots to ends and massage without rubbing the fibre. Rinse and repeat 2 to 3 times, then blow the hair to about 50% dry.
  2. Step B, smooth: apply Capillary Styling section by section from roots to ends, comb through, and leave for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Rinse with cool or lukewarm water, removing the product completely, then blow-dry fully.
  4. Flat-iron slowly in thin sections, 10 to 20 passes according to the hair, at a temperature set from your strand test.
  5. Step F, rebalance: apply a generous amount of Chemical Control from the mid-lengths to the ends, comb through, leave for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water.
  6. Step D, hydrate: apply the Water Replenishment mask from roots to ends, leave for 10 to 20 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and finish with a blow-out. Step D also goes home for weekly use.

For professional use. Do a patch test and a strand test before the service, and set your iron temperature from the strand test. External use only. This kit contains Amyl Cinnamal, Cinnamal, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Coumarin, Eugenol, Hexyl Cinnamal and Linalool across its steps; check the declared allergens on each product image before the service. Keep out of sunlight and store below 40C. Avoid contact with the eyes; if it occurs, rinse thoroughly with running water. Keep each pack closed after use and out of reach of children and pets. If irritation occurs, stop use and seek advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is in the ABFD kit and what does each step do?

Four steps: Step A Cuticle Prepper 1000ml detoxes and opens the cuticle, Step B Capillary Styling 1000ml is the plant-tannin smoother set with the iron, Step F Chemical Control 500ml conditions the chemically-processed lengths and rebalances the pH, and Step D Water Replenishment 500ml is the moisture mask. Together they are the complete Salvatore detox, smooth and reconstruct service, worked without formaldehyde.

Does the kit contain formaldehyde?

No. The smoothing is a Brazilian plant-tannin system, worked without formaldehyde, a formaldehyde releaser or glyoxylic acid. The tannin realigns the fibre and the flat iron sets it, then the Chemical Control and moisture masks condition and rebalance the result. That is what lets it smooth frizzy hair without an aldehyde smoothing agent. Always run a patch test and a strand test before the service.

What does the Chemical Control step do?

Step F is the pH-balancing conditioning mask used after the chemical work. A generous amount worked through the lengths conditions chemically-processed hair with plant tannins, collagen and keratin, and helps bring the fibre back to a balanced pH so it feels soft and combs through instead of catching. It conditions and stabilises the fibre rather than smoothing it, and it also earns its place around colour and relaxing services.

Can I use it on coloured or lightened hair?

Yes, after a strand test. The service suits most hair types, including coloured and lightened hair, and on those more porous lengths the smoothing and the reconstruction often show most. Set your iron temperature from the strand test and keep the sections thin. If the strand test shows the hair is too fragile to take the iron, do not proceed with the service.

Are the masks used in the salon or at home?

Step F is a back-bar step used in the chair after the smoothing to rebalance the pH. Step D finishes the service as a moisture mask and also goes home with the client for weekly use, 1 to 2 times a week, to keep the lengths soft. The smoothing itself, Steps A and B, is professional back-bar work.
