Why the Cordless Legend
A cut in the chair runs in a fixed order: the clipper takes the bulk and builds the fade, the trimmer sets the outline, and the foil shaver finishes. This is the clipper in that order, built around the fade. The guides take the length down in steps; the lever on the blade works the ground between two guides, which is where a soft fade is made or lost. Clipper-over-comb work uses the blade the same way, without a guide.
What to expect in the hand
On the battery it is a cordless clipper; when the battery is down, plug in the cable and carry on with the same cut. The blade is what WAHL calls the “WIDE RANGE FADE BLADE”, with “CRUNCH BLADE TECHNOLOGY”, and a metal lever on the clipper adjusts it. An LED indicator sits at the base.
Who it is not for
- Outlines and line-ups - that is a trimmer's job: the Wahl 5 Star cordless Detailer Li
- A skin-smooth finish - that is a foil shaver's job: the Wahl Vanish Shaver
Professional tip
Work the fade on the lever between guides, rather than reaching for the next guide each time. Set the guide for the band you are in, then move the lever in small steps across the line where two lengths meet, and check the blend after each step before you go further.
How to use
- Charge it before first use.
- With the clipper switched off, set the lever and oil the blade.
- Take the bulk down with a guide.
- Work the fade with the lever.
- Switch off and brush out the blade.
Care and maintenance
After each client, switch off and brush the teeth of the blade clean. At the end of the day, and whenever it starts to drag, put a few drops of clipper oil across the teeth, run it briefly and wipe off the excess. Keep Wahl Special Blade Oil 200ml at the station for the daily oiling, and Wahl Oil Tube 10ml in the case for work away from it.
Complete your Wahl setup
- Finish the line - a trimmer for the outline after the fade
- The last pass - a foil shaver for a skin-smooth finish
- Keep the blade in shape - clipper oil for the station and the case
Frequently asked questions
Is this the cordless Legend or the corded one?
This is the cordless one. WAHL types it a lithium-ion cord/cordless clipper: it works on its battery, or on the cable.
Can it run on the cable when the battery is low?
Yes. Plug in the cable and keep working; it is a cord/cordless clipper.
How is the blade adjusted for a fade?
A metal lever adjusts the blade across its fade range of 0.7 mm to 1.7 mm. Switch the clipper off before you set it, and judge each step by the blend.
Which guide sizes come with it?
Eight: 1.5 mm, 3 mm, 4.5 mm, 6 mm, 10 mm, 13 mm, 19 mm and 25 mm.
How do I look after the blade?
Brush the teeth clean after each client. At the end of the day, and whenever it drags, put a few drops of clipper oil across the teeth, run it briefly and wipe off the excess. Clean it dry; never rinse it.
