Piur London S.P.R. Protein Infusion (1000 ml) is the reconstruction step of the S.P.R. protocol, for lengths and ends that have lost elasticity or strength from chemical or heat history. It goes on straight after S.P.R. Shampoo, stays on for 10 minutes and is not rinsed: Seal & Protect goes on over it. That is the one thing to know about it. Without Seal & Protect, the infusion rinses back out.

Why the infusion is never used on its own

Protein Infusion deposits its proteins and amino acids along the lengths, and Piur London describes it as helping to reinforce weakened areas inside the fibre, improving elasticity and resistance without weighing hair down. What holds that deposit in place is the next step. Seal & Protect goes on over the infusion with no rinse in between, the two share one rinse, and only then does Acidic Closure finish the service. Rinse the infusion on its own and you rinse it away.

Professional tip

Do an elasticity check on a wet strand before you start: a strand that stretches and does not spring back is where this step earns its place. Note it on the client card, so the next visit compares like with like.

How to use

Two ways to work it: Piur London's directions, and the way we run it in the salon, with the timing left to Method A.

Method A: manufacturer method

Apply evenly to mid-lengths and ends. Do not apply to the scalp.
Leave on for 10 minutes; a mild heat source may be used during the pause if the protocol calls for it.
Do not rinse.
Proceed straight to Seal & Protect, applied over the top.

Method B: the Brazilian method

Squeeze out the excess water after the shampoo so the product is not diluted at the ends. Salon practice, not one of Piur London's steps.
Section in four. Apply mid-lengths to ends, nothing on the scalp.
Most product where the fibre is most porous, found at consultation; comb through with a wide-tooth comb to even it out.
Leave for the time in Method A. Heat is optional; if you use it, a gentle heat source.
Do not rinse. Seal & Protect goes straight over it.

Safety: Professional use only. Do not rinse before Seal & Protect: without it locking the infusion in, the layer rinses straight back out. Do not apply to the scalp. Not a stand-alone treatment: it is designed to work only as part of the full four-step protocol.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used without Seal & Protect?

No. Piur London states it is never used on its own: without Seal & Protect applied over it, the infusion rinses back out. The two go on one after the other and share a single rinse.

Can the S.P.R. steps be skipped or used out of order?

No. It is a closed four-step system and each step points to the next. Protein Infusion is not rinsed before Seal & Protect goes on over it, and Acidic Closure always closes the service. Running the steps out of order, or rinsing early, loses the infusion.

Is heat required during the treatment?

No. Heat is optional, not mandatory, during Protein Infusion and Seal & Protect. The shampoo and Acidic Closure are massaged in and rinsed at normal temperature.

Can S.P.R. be used on hair that has had a keratin treatment, relaxer or straightening service?

Piur London does not exclude previously chemically treated hair. As with any professional service, read the fibre's current condition before starting rather than relying on its treatment history alone.

Is the S.P.R. protocol vegan or formaldehyde-free?

No. Piur London states that the four S.P.R. protocol products, Shampoo, Protein Infusion, Seal & Protect and Acidic Closure, do not carry a vegan or formaldehyde-free seal. In the Sensorial Repair line only Mask Therapy carries the V-Label vegan certification.
